Singapore introduced its own coinage from 1967, carrying on the traditional and format passed down from the Straits Settlements. Only the 1 cent and 1 Dollar coins could not trace their encestry to the 19th century.
The Malaysian Ringgit (Dollar) is worth one hundred cents (cents).
Singapore has had two main series of coins, i.e the 1967 series and the 1985 series. From 1985, due to inflation, coins were smaller and made of less expensive alloys.
As well as the standard series, and occasional special issues, Singapore has also issued a large number of gold and silver coins that are not intended for general circulation. These are not currently shown on these pages.
I don't have a comprehensive set of images yet - still working on this. Meanwhile these images give a flavour of the coinage. Click on any image to see a full size scan.
