Singapore - Bank Notes

Singapore produced its first banknotes in 1967, a couple of years after it gained independence from Malaysia. In the meantime the Malaya and British Borneo notes continued to be used.

Singapore has produced four complete series of notes, along with some commemorative issues. In my opinion, the Orchid Series (1967-1973) are the most beautiful banknotes I have ever seen. The Bird Series (1976-1980) were also an attractive set. The Ship Series (1984-1991) moved away from a nature theme and showed scenes that celebrated Singapore's modernity, whilst the Portrait Series (1999 onwards) were less inspired.
